♥Horses and cattle and sheep - oh my! ♥

I'll let you in on a little secret ... I absolutely love farms. My dream has always been to live on a farm with a few horses, a cow or two and laying hens. I've always loved country life. So this past weekend I dragged my city born and bred husband to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Let's just say that my passion for farm life has not rubbed off on him one little bit. But he humoured me as I swooned over the horses, admired the cattle and inhaled the scent of hay (which I know sounds a bit strange but I love the smell of hay!)

Here's a sample of some of the sights from the fair ...

The freshly shorn sheep look and feel like velvet.  I love the Suffolk sheep ... they're the ones with the black faces and feet - so adorable!  The piglets were born November 1st and are so cute.  But my favourite of all are the horses.  I could spend all day just in the horse barns.  Next year we're getting tickets to the horse show ... just don't tell my husband!

♥ Fall Colours ♥

 autumn colour

It doesn't seem like the fall colours lasted very long this year. Or maybe that's just me. With all the rain we had plus being indoors with the flu for two weeks, I didn't get out to enjoy the changing leaves as much as I would have liked. The flu hit me hard the day of Halloween and by the time I got out again yesterday, the leaves were gone. My neighbour's maple tree was the most beautiful shade of gold but I never got a chance to photograph it. There's always next year, right?

♥ Autumn Decor ♥

Thanks so much for your warm welcome back!  I've been busy gathering all the blogs I follow into Google Reader.  Everyone's been scattered about on Bloglines, Google Reader or in my bookmarks and it's nice to have you all in one place.

This autumn, I decided to forgo my usual reds and oranges for a more neutral palette in creams and black.  I'm obsessed with white baby boo pumpkins and have them scattered everywhere.  Because they're small, they're easy to tuck into urns and containers.

Okay, I've used a little bit of orange (the little "seed" pumpkin under the cloche!)  but the colour is muted so it works.  I found the black metal crow and tin star at a craft sale and the white urn was a garage sale find.

The pink in the dried hydrangeas still works because I've kept all the colours muted.  If I'd used orange pumpkins, I would have had to replace my hydrangeas.

I love this picture and it was so easy to make!  The red maple leaves were so pretty and I wanted to somehow display them.  First I pressed them then glued them to a page from a vintage book which I'd cut to fit the frame.  I lightly "aged" the edges of the page with ink then popped it all into a vintage frame.  Instead of hanging it on the wall, it now sits on a chair with some old books.

I've been using a lot more natural and vintage items in my decor.  I'll be keeping my autumn theme up until American Thanksgiving and then I'll start bringing out Christmas.  I still haven't decided on a theme or colour but I know I want to do things differently this year.  I've done red and gold ever since we moved here and it's time for a change.

Until next time!

♥ From the Heart ♥

No one is more surprised at the creation of this blog than me! One blog was more than I could handle, or so I thought, but I've missed writing. As much as I love photography and sharing my photos on my photoblog, I needed to get back to writing. I've had blogger's block for over a year and assumed that I'd said all that I needed to say. Then, almost as if in a dream, I began to hear whispers of ideas and this little blog slowly began to take shape. I found myself wanting to write again about what's happening in my home and garden; about the vintage treasures I've found; about the projects I'm working on.  And I want to hear what you're up to as well.

I'm so glad you've stopped by. I hope you'll come back again ... and again. It's going to take time for me to find my voice again but I think the best way to find it is to jump in with both feet, don't you?

Until next time,

p.s. ~ I picked the roses from my garden this morning, thanks to this mild spell of weather we've been enjoying!
